The
following list is a guide for people who have never before
(or not recently) been owned by a feline acquaintance.
What
You Need: The Basics
Food
& Water Bowls (metal, glass or ceramic)
At feeding time, make sure the cat's feeding dish is some
distance from the other feeding dishes, and keep watch to
ensure there is no poaching.
Scratching
Post or Box
While a bed is optional, a scratching post is a necessity.
The important thing about a scratching post is not how big
or fancy it is, but how soon the cat gets accustomed to using
it instead of your furniture.
Toys
(balls, a cat dancer & Fake furry mice are a good start)
Litter
Box, Litter & Poop Scooper
The litter box should be in a neutral territory – away
from feeding dishes and sleeping quarters.
A
Place to Sleep
You might want a bed for the cat but be forewarned. Cats can
have a very definite idea of appropriate sleeping quarters,
and even the most elegant cat bed might not tempt your new
cat.
Cat
Carrier
You'll also need a cat carrier. If you travel a lot and expect
that the cat will travel with you then you will need a sturdy
carrier made of high impact plastic. Find one that has rounded
edged (easier to clean), a strong metal grill that fastens
securely and a large handle.
